If Samantha knew what Lydia was thinking she'd change her mind about bothering to do this, so it's a good thing she doesn't.
She doesn't take Lydia far, just behind the reception desk where there's an open space and, coincidentally, a photographer ready to capture what happens next. Here she takes both of Lydia's hands so that they're standing opposite each other.
"Close your eyes," Samantha instructs her. "Let the power flow through you."
Sensing that something is about to happen, people are starting to gather around to watch. Samantha closes her eyes and murmurs the start of an incantation under her breath. She's drawing power from the fae waiters in the room and from her own familiar. Lydia should be able to sense it too: a surge of energy in the air, a warmth in their skin. Samantha loves this feeling, that sense of power and potential. And that sense of connection too, usually with the coven she practises with, but in this case with the girl opposite her.
A gust of wind swirls around them. The energy forms into an invisible disc at their feet, and slowly, steadily, they rise into the air.
Samantha grins. "Open your eyes."
It's a simple levitation spell, a party trick that any witch can learn, but this is a particularly potent one with the extra magic she's drawing from the fae. And levitating is always fun.
